Air Fryer Buffalo Wings

  • Author: Lana
  • Total Time: 40minutes

Ingredients

Scale

For the Wings:

  • 2 lbs chicken wings: Halal chicken wings are the star of this recipe. You can use whole wings or wingettes (drumettes) if preferred.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil: Helps the wings crisp up and ensures an even coating of seasoning.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder: Adds depth to the seasoning for the wings.
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder: Another layer of flavor to complement the garlic powder.
  • 1 teaspoon paprika: For a smoky, savory flavor that enhances the overall taste of the wings.
  • Salt and black pepper: To taste, ensuring the wings are well-seasoned.

For the Buffalo Sauce:

  • ½ cup hot sauce: Use a halal-friendly hot sauce for that classic spicy kick. Franks RedHot is a popular choice.
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter: Adds richness and helps the sauce adhere to the wings.
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar: Adds a tangy bite to the sauce, balancing the heat.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder: Enhances the flavor of the buffalo sauce.
  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional): For a touch of sweetness to balance the heat, especially if you prefer a mild buffalo sauce.
  • Salt to taste: For seasoning the sauce.

Optional Garnishes:

  • Chopped fresh parsley: For a pop of color and freshness.
  • Ranch or blue cheese dressing: Serve on the side for dipping.

Instructions

FIRST STEP: PREPARE THE CHICKEN WINGS

  1. Prepare the Chicken Wings: If using whole wings, separate the drumettes from the flats (the wingettes) by cutting through the joint with a sharp knife or kitchen shears. Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This step is crucial for achieving a crispy texture.
  2. Season the Wings: In a large mixing bowl, toss the wings with olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Make sure the wings are evenly coated with the seasoning. You can adjust the seasoning amounts to suit your taste.

SECOND STEP: COOK THE WINGS IN THE AIR FRYER

  1. Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (193°C) for about 5 minutes. Preheating ensures that the wings cook evenly and get crispy.
  2. Arrange the Wings in the Air Fryer: Place the wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Make sure there’s some space between each wing to allow air to circulate around them, ensuring even cooking. You may need to cook the wings in batches, depending on the size of your air fryer.
  3. Air Fry the Wings: Cook the wings for 25-30 minutes, flipping them halfway through for even crispness. After the cooking time is up, the wings should be golden brown and crispy on the outside, with the meat cooked through on the inside. If you like your wings extra crispy, you can air fry them for an additional 5 minutes.

THIRD STEP: PREPARE THE BUFFALO SAUCE

  1. Make the Buffalo Sauce: While the wings are cooking, prepare the buffalo sauce. In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the hot sauce, white vinegar, garlic powder, and honey (if using). Stir well to combine and heat through. Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning, adding more vinegar for tanginess or honey for sweetness, depending on your preference.
  2. Keep the Sauce Warm: Once the sauce is fully combined and heated, reduce the heat to low to keep it warm while the wings finish cooking.

FOURTH STEP: COAT THE WINGS WITH BUFFALO SAUCE

  1. Coat the Wings: Once the wings are cooked to perfection, transfer them to a large mixing bowl. Pour the buffalo sauce over the wings, tossing them gently to coat evenly. Ensure each wing is well-covered in the sauce.
  2. Serve: Serve the buffalo wings immediately, garnished with chopped parsley and a side of ranch or blue cheese dressing for dipping if desired.
