Creamy Cheese Dip Recipe

  • Author: Lana
  • Total Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (preferably mild or sharp)

  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened

  • 1 cup sour cream

  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1–2 teaspoons taco seasoning (check for halal certification)

  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1/2 cup milk (or more to adjust the consistency)

  • Salt to taste

  • Optional: 1/4 cup chopped jalapeños for some heat (fresh or pickled)

  • Fresh parsley or cilantro for garnish (optional)

  • Chips, crackers, or fresh veggies for dipping

Ingredient Highlights

  • Cheddar Cheese: Cheddar cheese gives the dip a sharp, rich flavor. You can use mild or sharp cheddar, depending on your preference.

  • Cream Cheese: The cream cheese provides the dip with its smooth and velvety texture.

  • Sour Cream: Adds a tangy flavor that complements the richness of the cheese.

  • Taco Seasoning: This brings the perfect blend of spices to enhance the flavor of the dip, while still keeping it mild enough for all tastes.

  • Milk: The milk helps adjust the dip’s consistency, making it creamy without being too thick.

Instructions

Prepare the Base:

  1. Sauté the Onion and Garlic: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and cook for about 3-4 minutes until softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent burning. This will create a savory base for the dip.

  2. Add Cream Cheese and Sour Cream: Once the onion and garlic are softened, add the cream cheese to the pan and stir until it melts completely. Then, add the sour cream, stirring until smooth and well combined.

Stir in the Cheeses and Spices:

  1. Add Cheddar Cheese: Gradually add the shredded cheddar cheese to the mixture. Stir constantly until the cheese melts and blends into the creamy base.

  2. Season the Dip: Sprinkle in the taco seasoning, paprika, black pepper, and salt. Stir the mixture well, allowing the spices to fully combine with the cheese and cream. If you want to make the dip spicier, add some chopped jalapeños at this stage.

Adjust the Consistency:

  1. Add Milk: Slowly add milk to the dip, stirring continuously. Start with 1/2 cup and add more if necessary to achieve your desired dip consistency. If you prefer a thicker dip, you can reduce the amount of milk, or if you like it creamier and more pourable, you can add more.

Heat and Serve:

  1. Simmer and Melt: Let the dip simmer on low heat for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, to ensure everything is evenly heated and the flavors have melded together.

  2. Garnish and Serve: Once the dip is ready, transfer it to a serving bowl and garnish with fresh parsley or cilantro for a burst of color. Serve immediately with chips, crackers, or sliced vegetables for dipping.
