- Tahini: Tahini gives the hummus its signature creamy texture and a nutty flavor that complements the richness of the lamb.
- Garlic and Spices: Garlic, cumin, coriander, and cinnamon combine to create an aromatic blend that infuses the lamb with depth and complexity.
- Chickpeas: Chickpeas are the base of the hummus and provide a source of protein, making this dish nutritious and satisfying.
Instructions
Preparing the Spiced Lamb:
- Cook the Lamb: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the finely chopped onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until softened.
- Add Garlic and Spices: Add the minced garlic to the pan and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant. Then, stir in the cumin, coriander, cinnamon, paprika, turmeric, black pepper, and salt. Cook for 1-2 minutes, allowing the spices to bloom.
- Brown the Lamb: Add the ground lamb to the pan and break it apart with a spoon or spatula. Cook for about 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the lamb is fully browned and cooked through.
- Add Lemon and Parsley: Once the lamb is cooked, remove it from the heat and stir in the fresh lemon juice. Garnish with chopped parsley (optional) and set aside.
Preparing the Hummus Base:
- Make the Hummus: In a food processor, combine the cooked chickpeas, tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, cumin, and salt. Process until smooth, scraping down the sides as needed.
- Adjust Consistency: Gradually add water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until you reach your desired hummus consistency. If you prefer a thinner hummus, you can add more water.
- Taste and Adjust: Taste the hummus and adjust the seasoning by adding more salt, lemon juice, or garlic, as desired.
Assembling the Hummus Bowl:
- Serve the Hummus: Spoon a generous portion of hummus into individual bowls or a large serving dish, spreading it out with the back of a spoon to create a well in the center.
- Top with Spiced Lamb: Carefully spoon the spiced lamb mixture into the center of the hummus, allowing some of the lamb to spill over the sides.
- Garnish and Serve: Garnish the dish with your choice of toppings, such as fresh parsley, cucumber slices, cherry tomatoes, sautéed onions, or pomegranate seeds. Drizzle with olive oil for an extra touch of richness.
